ARMY CADET FORCE - MAKE YOUR MARK

WHO WE ARE

The Army Cadet Force (ACF) is huge, with more than 44,000 members in the UK. There are over 1700 units spread across the country, each with around 25 cadets. When it comes to sport, action and adventure, its hard to find anything that beats the ACF. If your between 12, in year 8 (otherwise 13) and 18 you can join today and spend your weekends taking part in adventurous training and sports like abseiling and rock climbing. You may even get to fly in a helicopter! OK, so you might be spending your Saturday afternoons up to your waist in mud, but wouldn't you rather be doing that - and having great experiences and making great mates - instead of just sitting in front of TV all day? And there'll be plenty of time to play the sports you love too, because the ACF has teams that compete at county, regional and even national level.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Shropshire ACF hold most of its annual camps close to the coast, so if you like the sound of this and fancy action and adventure by the bucket-load, make contact today. You'll get to wear a uniform, but you won't be part of the Army, and with over 100 trained Adult Instructors you'll get all the support you need to take on the challenges of being a cadet. After completing 13 weeks basic training at your detachment, the next 9 months are spent gaining 1 star qualification, a further 2 years to gain qualification at 2 and 3 star. The highest level of 4 star and master cadet will then follow.

WHAT ELSE WILL I GET OUT OF IT

There's loads to do in the ACF besides sport, but it all includes making great friends and having amazing experiences. You can take part in community projects, work towards the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, and even earn qualifications such as NVQs in public services. Whatever you are interested in, there's a brilliant life to be had as an Army Cadet and its available to everyone between the ages of 12 and 18. Joining the ACF is a chance to learn new skills, make new mates and, best of all, have a great time.
