Shropshire ACF broke its all time record by hosting 368 cadets for our annual festive and fun filled Christmas camp, this was the highest number of cadets Shropshire has ever had on any weekend.

The cadets took part in a series of round robin stands being hosted by recruitments teams of the Grenadier Guards, The Rifles, The Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry and Shropshire ACF adult instructors. The cadets enjoyed paintballing, archery, command tasks and a BB range to name just a few activities, as well as competing in three Lucas Tooth competitions - shooting, football and climbing.

In the evening a Christmas dinner was served by the officers and adult instructors, due to high numbers the dinner had to be spilt into two sitting again which had never been done before. Following the meal the cadets headed off to the disco, to finish a great day.

On Sunday the cadets were competing yet again, in the activities of county cross country and first aid. Overall the weekend was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all, when the prizes were presented by the Commandant not one detachment dominated with 11 out of 21 detachments coming within the top three of all competitions.

Shropshire cadets once again proved themselves that they are growing in strength every year, by bettering the results of last year’s competition, well done and keep up the great work.

Take a look and the result and team photos below.

A Donnington Cadet has received high praise for her actions in a potentially very dangerous situation which arose in June 2011. Cadet L/Cpl Shelby Fynn was present when a diabetic classmate collapsed and started to fit on the school field. Thanks to her calm head and first aid skills, she and two other pupils dealt with the situation which would have been frightening and challenging for even a trained adult first aider. Shelby sent other pupils to get staff, cleared pupils from the area and administered first aid, including adoption of the recovery position and ensuring the air way was kept clear. There is no doubt her actions prevented a difficult situation from becoming a lot worse.

A dazzling display was put on by Shropshire cadets in the regional swimming competition held at RAF Cosford on the 17th September. 17 cadets entered the competition and a staggering 13 came first in their events. This enabled them to secure an overall first place, they will go on to have the largest presence when representing the West Midlands region at a national level later this year.

To find out more on what happened, please take a look at the photos and read the full story.

Copthorne and Shrewsbury Detachments supplied 9 Cadets for the Flag lowering party’s at the recent Light Infantry and Rifles Reunion weekend Sounding the Retreat Ceremony 10-11 June at Copthorne Barracks, a prestigious event that we are very proud of to be asked to take part in.

The cadets were also invited to pass around canapés at the Offers Mess Cocktail party before the Sounding Retreat Ceremony, where they had the opportunity to met many of Shropshire’s Dignitaries, After the Ceremony the Cadets had chance to mingle with the Light Infantry and Rifles veterans while collecting on behalf of the Rifle Association help the injured charity.

On the 11th September 2011 SI Bateson will be participating in the Lake Vyrnwy half marathon, he will be collecting for help for heroes on this event and would be very grateful if you would MAKE A DONATION by going to his online collection page.

As a detachment the cadets enrolled in D of E will also be fundraising by collecting sponsorship for SI Bateson to cover their volunteering section of the award scheme.

He is hoping to raise quite a lot for what we all agree is a very worthwhile Charity. So he would be very grateful if you would give what you can, all you need to do is click on this link and follow the page instructions.
